[Satellite TODAY 10-11-10] Pactel International has implemented its DVB-S2 platform to provide satellite-based Internet radiocast services to Matariki FM, a bilingual radio station on Cook Island, Pactel announced Oct. 8.
This service is uplinked on a GE-23 Ku-band platform from Rarotonga, Cook Islands, and downlinked to Pactel’s hub in Hawaii. The infrastructure set-up aims to allow listeners to access Matariki FM from any part of the world.
“With approximately 90 percent of Cook Islanders living outside their native land, it became very important for Matariki FM to have the ability to stream local news and Polynesian music (predominantly Cook Islands and Tahitian) to every part of the world,” Matariki FM said in a statement.
