[Satellite TODAY 09-30-10]  Latens will provide content security to Dish Nepal’s new DTH platform, the company announced Sept. 30.
    Latens’ will supply Dish Nepal with card-less Conditional Access (CA) technology, which will be supported by set-top box and middleware from Indieon and Arion. The 80-channel Dish Nepal DTH platform is targeting to gain more than 500,000 subscribers in Nepal and increase the digital penetration to more than 50 percent.
    Latens said the deal is a significant one for the company as it looks to make headway in the DTH marketplace. “Latens’ CAS has helped us save more than 60 percent over the lifecycle of the CAS and is probably the only solution which helps us to address piracy issues such as smart-card sharing," Laxmi Prasad Paudiyal, managing director Dish Nepal said in a statement.
    The new contract is part of Latens’ initiative to boost revenues in the Asian region. Earlier in September, the company announced a partnership with Noida Software Technology Park Ltd. (NSTPL) to allow NSTPL to offer Latens CAS to Indian broadcasters through the NSTPL teleport.
    NSTPL is a provider of a range of services, such as TV broadcasting; newsgathering and video uplinking from its state-of-the-art facility spread over 12 acres in Noida. Currently NSTPL uplinks more than 30 channels and is expected to increase this to 50 channels before the year-end, making it one of the biggest teleports in AMEA.
