[Satellite TODAY 09-30-10] LightSquared has teamed up with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Indian Health Service (IHS) to provide telecommunications service access to U.S. tribal communities, LightSquared announced Sept. 29.
LightSquared has agreed to donate up to 2,000 satellite phones and service for HIS to use in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
LightSquared’s license terms with the FCC require the company’s network to achieve coverage of 100 million customers by the end of 2012, 145 million by the end of 2013 and 260 million by the end of 2015. These coverage rates do not include satellite coverage.
