[Satellite TODAY 09-29-10] Manufacturer Com Dev won a follow-on contract with an unnamed customer to provide components for a commercial communications satellite, the company announced Sept. 28.
Com Dev will provide switches, filters and multiplexers for the satellite by the end of Com Dev’s 2011 fiscal year. While the contract initially is valued at $1.8 million, Com Dev said it expects the deal to a lead to a full contract valued in excess of $7 million.
The deal is Com Dev’s fourth satellite equipment order resulting from a January agreement with the unnamed customer.
“We have been seeing a trend whereby some customers are negotiating terms with us in advance on multiple spacecraft that they plan to build and launch. This is one of many indications that the commercial communications satellite market remains robust,” Com Dev interim CEO Michael Pley said in a statement.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
