Shanghai Media Group and GlobeCast formed a partnership to develop a fiber link in China and provide broadcast services for international broadcasters and content producers, the companies announced Sept. 16.
The companies said the goal of the agreement is to combine Shanghai Media’s domestic Chinese capabilities with GlobeCast’s worldwide network and to develop business with news and sports channels, rights holders, entertainment content producers and business TV customers.
Shanghai Media will provide in-house equipment and facilities in China, including electronic newsgathering kit and crews, satellite newsgathering trucks and flyaways, outside broadcasting vans and tape play-out feed-points in Shanghai and Beijing, domestic fiber links and route switching in China and uplink and downlink transmission solutions. The new link will be established between Shanghai’s point of presence in Shanghai and GlobeCast’s point of presence in Hong Kong. From there, GlobeCast will provide customers with access to its international fiber network, which has points of presence in Asia, America, Africa and Europe as well as access to its 12 teleports worldwide for satellite delivery.
GlobeCast and Shanghai Media also will build a digital file transmission services for domestic use within China, using GlobeCast technologies and Shanghai Media’s network resources.
