“We believe that satellite-based electronic delivery is the future of cinema distribution as it provides cost-effective, secure and simultaneous distribution of film content to multiple sites. It also enables the distribution of live alternative content which we see as a major growth area and an exciting commercial opportunity for exhibitors,” Arqiva Satellite & Media Commercial Director Barrie Woolston said in a statement.
Arqiva also said it is making efforts to gain traction in international markets with its VOD technology, which has been primarily used in the United Kingdom. The company begin licensing to third parties the VOD technology that powers its SeeSaw online TV service. The online video aggregation platform will be offered internationally as a bespoke solution configured to meet customers’ specific requirements, or as a more standard product closely aligned with SeeSaw’s functionality.
