[Satellite TODAY 09-07-10] Spanish broadband specialist Quantis is rolling out a full-service broadband solution based on Newtec‘s Ka-band Sat3Play technology, hub and terminals to remote and rural communities across Spain, the company announced Sept. 7.
The roll out is part of a 24 million Euro ($30.5 million) Spanish government-sponsored program that aims to establish a chain of neighborhood Internet access centers, known as Telecentros, in areas where broadband access cannot be provided by cable. Spain now has 100 active Telecentros, with another 200 planned.
“Infrastructure projects such as the Telecentros programme are always very rewarding to be involved with. Our partners at Quantis are providing a very high-quality service which will have real social and economic benefits, and will continue to deliver a full-on broadband experience into the future,” Newtec CEO Serge Van Herck said in a statement.
Sat3Play also can be combined with VoIP and direct-to-home television services to supports a large variety of professional applications such as for the maritime, energy, transport and security markets.
