[Satellite TODAY 08-05-10] Hughes Communications enjoyed a strong fiscal 2010 second quarter as its adjusted EBITDA increased 29 percent to $52 million, with total revenues climbing 13 percent over the same period in 2009 to $256 million, the company announced in its latest financial results, issued Aug. 4.
    Hughes grew its total services revenues by 18 percent in the quarter and added 47,000 gross subscribers, which resulted in a net gain of 15,000 new customers. Hughes also reduced its churn from to 2.3 in 2009 to 2 percent in the second quarter of 2010.
    The company’s 2010 second quarter operating income was $18 million, compared to an operating loss of $31 million in 2009, which included a $44 million one-time charge as a result of Chapter 11 filing by Sea Launch.
    Hughes reported $201 million in new orders generated during the quarter, with positive net cash from operating activities at $30 million — a growth of 54 percent over the second quarter of 2009.
