[Satellite TODAY 08-02-10]  ViaSat has contracted Cavium Networks to supply its Octeon Multi-Core processor technology to power ViaSat’s next-generation subscriber terminals and SurfBeam 2 broadband aggregation gateways, Cavium announced July 30.
The Cavium technology aims to provide always-on high-speed Internet access with built-in firewall, network address translation, and video/voice-over-IP services at speeds up to 100 megabits per second.
ViaSat said the combination of its terminals and gateways with Octeon’s processors would enable the service provider to deploy satellite network systems with very high system capacity, simple no-touch subscriber provisioning, and smaller, lighter consumer-priced subscriber terminals.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
