[Satellite TODAY 07-30-10]  Korea Telecom (KT) signed an agreement with Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) to lease multiple C and Ku-band transponders on various ABS satellites, including ABS-2, which is scheduled to be operational in early 2013, the operator announced July 29.
“This agreement will strengthen KT’s satellite business with a view of better support on its customers who are in need of global connectivity. Thanks to this additional capability, KT could serve around 66 countries with the umbrella of KT’s combined satellite fleets,” KT Senior Executive Vice President Sung Man Kim said in a statement.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed, but the operator said the capacity lease was a multimillion-dollar purchase.
This contract marks the third transaction between the two organizations in about 12 months. The earlier agreements were for the sale and purchase of two Koreasat satellites.
