[Satellite TODAY 07-23-10] Orbital Sciences produced $337.7 million in revenues in its 2010 second quarter — a 25 percent increase over its performance in the same quarter of 2009, the company announced in its financial results, released July 22.
Orbital’s net income, however, declined from $8.7 million in 2009 to $6.3 million during the second quarter of 2010, with operating income also dipping slightly to $12.2 million from $12.8 million due to expenses related to the acquisition of the spacecraft development and manufacturing business of General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems.
CEO David Thompson said its second quarter results also were impacted by unanticipated costs related to Intelsat’s Galaxy 15 communications satellite anomaly in April and the effect of the termination of NASA’s Orion human spacecraft contract in May. Orbital continued to make steady progress on the Taurus 2 launch vehicle and Cygnus spacecraft development programs in the quarter.”
