[Satellite TODAY 07-23-10] Astrium has created a new business entity, Spot Infoterra Hellas, which will provide geo-information products and services in Greece, Astrium announced July 22.
To create Spot Infoterra Hellas, Astrium merged its Spot imagery partner Geomet with its subsidiary Infoterra, both based in Greece. Astrium said the merge aims to develop its product distribution expansion in Europe.
Spot Infoterra Hellas will distribute the full range of Spot Infoterra products and services, including data provided by the Spot, Pleiades and TerraSAR-X Earth observation satellites. It will be developing additional services as part of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security initiative with a special focus on natural disasters. It will also be offering Astrium’s maritime surveillance, border patrol and national and regional planning services.
Astrium holds an 81 percent share in Spot Infoterra Hellas, with the remaining 19 percent owned by the founders of Geomet. The company expects to employ a staff of around 30 people within the next two years.
