[Satellite TODAY 07-22-10]  Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. (SSTL) has started building a small satellite for the Republic of Kazakhstan, the company announced July 20.
    The satellite aims to provide medium-resolution multi-spectral Earth observation capabilities to complement a high-resolution satellite that is being provided by EADS Astrium as the result of a contract awarded to the company in October 2009.
    The Republic of Kazakhstan will use the satellite as part of a national system that will support its government with resource monitoring, resource management, land-use mapping and environmental monitoring information. This satellite system also will include a high-resolution mapping spacecraft and a wide-swath medium resolution multispectral mapping spacecraft implemented by Astrium and SSTL.
    Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
