[Satellite TODAY 07-13-10] The EchoStar 15 satellite has performed post-launch maneuvers following its successful launch by International Launch Services (ILS) from the Baikonur Space Center on July 11, operator EchoStar announced July 12.
The Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) built satellite was sent into geosynchronous orbit at 61.5 degrees West on an ILS Proton Breeze M launch vehicle. The satellite is based on the 20-kilowatt version of SS/L’s 1300 platform. EchoStar 15 is designed to provide Ku-band services in the United States and will support Dish Network‘s expansion of its HD channel lineup.
“SS/L is always willing to take on a challenge. We asked them to provide us this satellite ahead of schedule and they exceeded our expectations. We would like to congratulate them for helping to make the launch of EchoStar 15 a success,” Vice President of EchoStar Space Programs Rohan Zaveri said in a statement.
