[Satellite TODAY 07-09-10] Thaicom will launch a high-speed Internet service in India via the Ipstar broadband satellite in the third quarter of 2010, the company announced July 8.
In a statement, Thaicom CEO Arak Chonlatanon said the service launch was made possible by the fact that the company is on track to make a net profit this year. “We will return to net earnings this year, which will be mainly driven by revenue from Ipstar … Service in India already started on July 1 and the contract signing will eventually take place in the third quarter,” Arak said.
The company is forecast to post a net profit of 133.5 million baht ($4.1 million) in 2010. Thaicom, indirectly owned by Singapore’s Temasek Holdings, also generates revenue from users in Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines, among other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
