[Satellite TODAY 07-06-10] Thailand’s Pheu Thai Party will launch Asia Update, a new C-band satellite TV service, next week from a transponder on an unnamed foreign-owned satellite, party deputy spokesman Jirayu Huangsup said in a statement released July 5.
The launch of the channel follows an incident in May where Thailand’s Red Shirt party broke into operator Thaicom’s facilities.
Jirayu said 40 percent of the channel’s content would be about foreign affairs, with 25 percent about politics and 35 percent for entertainment programming. Viewers will have to use a C-band disc manufactured by PSI to receive the station. Pheu Thai will announce the frequency rate of the station for tuning the disc and receiver shortly before the launching date.
