[Satellite TODAY 06-30-10] XStreamHD, an HD consumer entertainment delivery and distribution company, has entered into a long-term satellite service agreement with EchoStar to use capacity from EchoStar’s leased AMC-16 satellite, located at 85 degrees West, the operator announced June 29.
    This capacity deal will enable XStreamHD to offer HD entertainment coverage across North America and increase its capacity on the AMC-16 satellite as the company’s transport needs grow over time.
XStreamHD’s content is presented in a 1080p format, and delivered via satellite directly to homes. Utilizing AMC-16’s FSS capacity, XStreamHD will transport multiple streams of pre-fetched entertainment to a subscriber’s XStreamHD Media Server.
    “EchoStar has been helpful throughout our development cycle as we perfected our patent-pending transport technology. Having completed a rigorous set of test protocols, we are excited to launch our advanced whole-home HD entertainment solution this summer,” XStreamHD President and CEO George Gonzalez said in a statement.
    Financial details of the capacity deal were not disclosed.
