[Satellite TODAY 06-29-10] ViaSat is providing its DVB-S2 multi-stream modulator IP core, SkyPHY-MSM, to Sencore as part of a new satellite modulator offering scheduled for rollout in 2011, Sencore announced June 28.
The product is designed to process multiple data streams and optimize use of satellite bandwidth to reduce equipment costs and operating expenses. The modulator’s two-channel, 1RU chassis is designed to provide multi-stream satellite video delivery while minimizing overall transponder use.
The product will deliver one or two independent DVB-S2 modulations with up to six streams in each. The device will accept transport streams via DVB-ASI or IP inputs, which gives users the flexibility to accommodate changes over time.
“With full DVB-S2 compliance and a flexible and scalable architecture, the SkyPHY-MSM is ideal for next generation DVB-S2 modulators. Sencore has benefited from our ability to quickly customize the IP core to their specific needs while taking advantage of our system level DVB-S2 heritage,” ViaSat IP and ASIC Product Manager Chandra Raj said in a statement.
