[Satellite TODAY 06-11-10] Pace has been contracted by African DTH operator MultiChoice to develop a second-generation HD PVR for roll-out across Africa, Pace announced June 10.
MultiChoice, with a pay-TV customer base of 2.4 million, has been working with Pace for 15 years. Pace was the first company to develop an HD device for MultiChoice, creating an HD set-top box for the launch of MultiChoice’s HD service in 2008.
“We’ve made significant investments in HD, and the World Cup provides us with the perfect opportunity to showcase the quality of HD programming. Pace has been highly influential in the success of our HD service to date. We rely on them as an invaluable technology partner to help us deliver a superior HD experience to our customers,” MultiChoice Africa CEO Nolo Letele said in a statement.
Separetely, Pace announced it has become a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance and will incorporate Wi-Fi technology into selected upcoming set-top boxes. In a statement, the set-top box vendor said it views Wi-Fi as a “crucial part of the future converged home entertainment environment” and has helped expand its set-top box’s footprint and enabled pay-TV operators to offer increasingly innovative services.
