[Satellite TODAY 06-02-10] Eurovision has signed deals with SES World Skies and AsiaSat to provide satellite delivery of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, the operators announced June 1.
Eurovision, a division of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), has enlisted SES World Skies’ NSS-5, NSS-806 and AMC-9 satellites to enable broadcasters across the globe to provide World Cup coverage.
“We work closely with SES World Skies to bring top quality sports events to the world broadcasting community. SES has demonstrated it is a highly reliable partner in our mission to put the most prestigious sports programming exactly where broadcasters need it in a seamless, reliable and cost-effective way,” Stefan Kuerten, director of Eurovision operations, said in a statement.
AsiaSat has been contracted to distribute live HD and SD World Cup television feeds to viewers in the Asia-Pacific region through leased additional C-band transponders on the AsiaSat 5 satellite. Eurovision will transport the signals from the International Broadcast Centre in Johannesburg via its dedicated fiber network to AsiaSat’s Tai Po Earth Station in Hong Kong for uplinking to AsiaSat 5.
