[Satellite TODAY 05-26-10] Programming transmitted by SES World Skies’ AMC 11 satellite will not be affected as no collision occurred with Intelsat’s Galaxy 15 satellite following SES’ orbital maneuvers, the operators announced May 25.
Comcast, Time Warner and Cablevision Systems also have confirmed that Galaxy 15 will cause no interference with programming.
Galaxy 15 experienced an anomaly April 5 following a solar storm. The satellite remains operational, but Intelsat lost control the spacecraft, which began drifting away from its orbital slot at 133 degrees West and east toward AMC-11, which is located at 131 degrees West. Both Galaxy 15 and AMC 11 operate on the same frequencies, which caused speculation that the drifting satellite would disrupt SES’ services.
