[Satellite TODAY 05-25-10] Brazilian fixed telecommunications provider Intelig has signed a multi-year capacity contract with Intelsat to secure capacity on the Intelsat 14 satellite (IS-14), Intelsat announced May 24.
IS-14, located at 315 degrees East, aims to enable Intelig to deliver high demand mobile applications and other service offerings that support voice and data services to rural areas in Brazil.
In late 2009, TIM, a mobile operator in Brazil, acquired Intelig. As a result of the acquisition, the company integrated its fixed and wireless network infrastructures.
“The Intelsat system already has enabled us to offer broadband networks to our government customers, provide maximum network efficiency for our enterprise customers and we now look forward to expanding our wireless telephony services to the most remote areas of Brazil,” Intelig Director of Engineering and Operations Leonardo Cifali said in a statement.
