[Satellite TODAY 05-19-10] OnAir will start offering in-flight connectivity services in Russia following a license agreement the company signed with Russian mobile network operator MegaFon to operate the services on Aeroflot Airbus fleets, OnAir announced May 18.
OnAir will equip Aeroflot A330 and A320 jets so that MegaFon can provide the services by June.
Passengers flying on equipped Aeroflot aircraft will be offered mobile communication packages based on Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband and will include GSM/GPRS and WiFi Internet and voice/text communications.
OnAir CEO Benoit Debains said the deal in Russia is part of a series of agreements the company will sign with national mobile phone operators around the world this year. “Russia is a high-potential market. We are pleased to be the first to enter this market and the first to establish a new form of cooperation with mobile phone companies,” Debains said in a statement.
