[Satellite TODAY 05-19-10] The French Polynesian Office of Post and Telecommunications (OPT) has launched a high-speed satellite broadband network based on iDirect’s Evolution platform, iDirect announced May 17.
The network will introduce expanded voice, GSM and Internet coverage to remote areas of French Polynesia, serving residential, enterprise, government and maritime customers.
OPT’s satellite network will integrate with French Polynesia’s terrestrial communications infrastructure, which includes a submarine fiber optic cable linking French Polynesia with Hawaii, to extend broadband connectivity to outlying villages.
“We chose iDirect because it provides the most efficient solution for allocating bandwidth across remote locations, economically serving sites with a dynamic range of network traffic. In addition, our investment in iDirect gives us the ability to serve a variety of vertical markets, including the maritime sector,” OPT General Manager Manfred Chave said in a statement.
