[Satellite TODAY 05-17-10] ViaSat saw overall revenues rise but net profits fell in the 12-month period that closed at the end of March, ViaSat announced in its fiscal year 2010 results released May 14.
For the year, the company reported overall revenues of $688.1 million, up from to $628.2 million in the 2009 fiscal year. Earnings slipped from $38.3 million in 2009 to $31.3 million in 2010.
The Government Systems segment posted revenues of $385.2 million, down slightly from the previous year due to lower sales of information assurance and tactical data link products, offset by higher sales in government satellite communication systems. Commercial Networks revenues were were $227.1 million, a 1.6 percent decrease from the prior year due to a reduction in consumer broadband product sales, which partly was due to ViaSat no longer selling equipment to WildBlue following the acquisition of WildBlue and sales of mobile satellite communication systems.
The Satellite Services segment contributed revenues of $75.8 million for fiscal year 2010, a $67.1 million increase from fiscal year 2009. The increase primarily was related to the acquisition of WildBlue in the third quarter as well as growth in mobile broadband satellite services.
