[Satellite TODAY 05-06-10] Intelsat has contracted International Launch Services (ILS) to launch the Intelsat 22 satellite in the first half of 2012, ILS announced May 4.
The Intelsat 22 satellite will be built by Boeing, based on the 702MP platform, and launched into super-synchronous transfer orbit aboard an ILS Proton rocket.
The mission is part of Intelsat’s multi-launch agreement with ILS, which allowed Intelsat to substitute the Intelsat 22 satellite for the previously announced Intelsat 21 satellite. ILS has similar multi-launch agreements with SES and Eutelsat.
“ILS and Khrunichev look forward to supporting Intelsat’s continued growth and expansion of its fleet through the launch of Intelsat 22 and Intelsat 23 satellites,” ILS President Frank McKenna said in a statement.
