[Satellite TODAY 04-30-10] The Tauri Group, an analytical consulting firm for homeland security, defense, and space enterprises, has released a study showing that commercial GEO launch prices per kilogram, adjusted for inflation, dropped by 34 percent over the last decade.

The study, commissioned by Arianespace and released April 29, claims that total cost per transponder equivalent of satellite capacity dropped even more rapidly than price per kilogram due to increased satellite capabilities, as well as the average satellite mass increasing 24 percent over the last decade.
The Tauri Group study also claims that from 2010 to 2018, commercial launchers will have 52 percent more capacity than required to meet the average projected demand from studies conducted by Futron, Teal Group, Euroconsult, Comstac and Forecast International.
