[Satellite TODAY 04-27-10] International Launch Services (ILS) launched the SES-1 satellite into geostationary orbit for SES World Skies, ILS announced April 26.
The ILS Proton Breeze M rocket launched from Baikonour Kosmodrome and released the satellite after an eight-hour, 58-minute mission, marking the third ILS Proton launch this year.
SES-1, built by Orbital Sciences Corp., will replace SES’ AMC-2 and AMC-4 satellites at 101 degrees West over North America. The spacecraft carries 24 C-band transponders as well as 24 Ku-band transponders.
“SES-1 will provide uninterrupted replacement capacity for SES World Skies, providing TV programming into every cable network in America. This is the first of five SES missions on ILS Proton in the next 18 months.” SES World Skies CEO Rob Bednarek said in a statement.
