[Satellite TODAY 04-23-10] Connectivity service provider MTN Satellite Communications (MTN) has opened a satellite teleport in Santander, Spain, in a joint venture project with Erzia Technologies, MTN announced April 22.
The teleport will serve as a centralized gateway for MTN’s VSAT communications, with coverage over the Americas, Europe and Asia, while providing C- and Ku-band commercial service as well as secure X-band service for government customers at a single location.
“The Santander teleport will provide a significant improvement in network efficiency, reliability and customer service, augmenting our worldwide infrastructure of redundant teleports and dedicated fiber-optic links. It will have a fully manned, 24/7 network operations center providing European time zone coverage and local language operators,” MTN CTO Richard Hadsell said in a statement.
