Ericsson has signed a deal with ESPN to provide its 3-D channel with a complete standards-based video processing solution, featuring encoders and receivers for 3-D broadcasts, Ericsson announced.
The complete, end-to-end Ericsson solution aims to support ESPN’s 3-D and HD picture quality from venue to viewer.
“Having pioneered HDTV with our first to market solutions, we are well placed to provide the video processing platform for 3-D, the next wave of consumer innovation. We are excited to be working with ESPN on delivering these ground breaking 3-D sporting experiences," Ericsson Director Staffan Pehrson said in a statement.
Separately, Ericsson has also won a contract from Indian DTH operator Tata Sky to upgrade its head-end in order to bring HD services to Tata Sky’s five million customers in India, Ericsson April 13.
The Ericsson head-end upgrade aims to enable Tata Sky to launch HD channels, increase its SD channel offering and achieve bandwidth savings.
“With Ericsson’s head-end, we have an advanced solution that dramatically increases the number of channels our subscribers can receive, as well as enabling us to now offer high definition programming to enhance the viewing experience,” Tata Sky CTO Yigs Riza said in a statement.
