Intelsat is launching IntelsatONE, a global, terrestrial architecture consisting of an IP/MPLS-based network, fiber, teleports and points of presence powered by Cisco Systems, the company announced April 12.
IntelsatONE will be fully integrated with Intelsat’s global satellite fleet.
For media organizations, IntelsatONE aims to manage video contribution and primary video distribution over an all-IP backbone using Cisco Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) technology and video transcoding and video network management platforms. For network services and government customers, IntelsatONE aims to provide enhanced products, such as IPv6 next-generation IP services, DVB-S2 trunking and MPLS VPN.
“IntelsatONE replaces Intelsat’s GlobalConnexSM network and addresses the emerging requirements of media organizations, network services providers and government customers. Intelsat’s customers will benefit from an expanded choice of service offerings, enhanced security features, and increased visibility and control of services operating across the Intelsat network,” Intelsat Spokesman Stephen Spengler said in a statement.
Intelsat will use the IntelsatONE network to broadcast the 2010 FIFA World Cup worldwide with more than 700 MHz of satellite capacity on seven satellites from the event locations.
