[Satellite TODAY 03-26-10] U.S. government-funded broadcaster Voice of America (VOA) has altered and restarted its satellite broadcasting service in Ethiopia after the country’s prime minister ordered it jammed, VOA announced March 25.
    “The international broadcasting agency launched this new means of transmission in order to overcome the jamming by the government of Ethiopia," VOA said in a release posted on its Web site.
In a March 17 statement from Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, the government accused VOA’s radio service in of broadcasting propaganda.
    VOA claimed its shortwave broadcasts into Ethiopia in Amharic have been jammed for three weeks. The U.S. Department of State criticized the Ethiopian Government’s signal jamming as a violation of international law.
