[Satellite TODAY 03-24-10] Israeli DTH operator Yes has launched a video-on-demand service based on NDS technology, NDS announced March 23.
The service will be based on Yes’s hybrid satellite-IP digital video recorder (DVR) platform. Yes subscribers will be able to download a movie or series to their MaxTotal HD DVR over the open Internet. Yes is now offering access to 5,000 free and pay video-on-demand titles, including HD content, with plans to upload hundreds of new titles each month.
“Both ourselves and NDS could see the potential of hybrid platforms as they emerged and we ensured that all the set-top boxes and DVRs we have deployed since 2005 have been IP-enabled,” Itzhak Elyakim, Yes’ vice president of engineering and CTO, said in a statement.
