[Satellite TODAY 03-22-10] Astrium has completed a communications module for Eutelsat’s high-speed broadband communications satellite, Ka-Sat, the operator announced March 19.
The communications module, designed to receive and transmit tw-way broadband services, has been transferred from Astrium’s manufacturing facilities and integrated with the satellite’s service module for testing.
Ka-Sat, scheduled to launch at the end of 2010, will deliver Eutelsat’s Tooway broadband service to homes beyond the range of terrestrial networks in the United Kingdom at speeds of 10 megabits per second (Mbps) or higher.
“Tooway’s existing satellite broadband service can already more than meet the government’s Digital Britain target of a 2 Mbps service for all U.K. residents, but Ka-Sat will ensure that the broadband needs of U..K rural residents continues to be met far into the future,” Eutelsat’s Northern European Tooway Sales Director Steve Petrie said in a statement.
