[Satellite TODAY 03-16-10] ViaSat was awarded a $47 million contract from O3b Networks to supply the fiber-satellite hybrid network developer with Ka-band infrastructure, O3b announced March 15.
    The ViaSat infrastructure includes gateway teleports, high-speed IP trunking terminals, full-motion satellite tracking antenna systems, high-speed modems and monitor and control equipment.
    ViaSat has also been contracted to provide system development and installation support to O3b. ViaSat will develop a new 4.5-meter antenna and a very high-speed DVB-S2 modem ahead of the planned launch of the O3b service in early 2012.
