[Satellite TODAY 03-10-10] Inmarsat posted revenues of $1.04 billion in 2009, up 4 percent from revenues of $996.7 million in 2008, the company reported March 9. EBITDA was $594.2 million, compared to $531.2 million a year ago.
Maritime sector revenue improved 10 percent for the year, driven by growth in the Fleet and FleetBroadband services. Land Mobile sector revenue grew 3 percent, driven by a 33 percent gain in BGAN revenue in 2009. Aeronautical and Leasing sector revenues improved 18 percent and 30 percent, respectively due to take up of SwiftBroadband service.
"We finished the year strongly and continue to see good trading conditions in all our markets,” Chairman and CEO Andrew Sukawaty said in a statement. “2009 was a transformational year for our satellite network, our service portfolio and our distribution arrangements, giving us a strong platform to maintain our market leadership.”
