[Satellite TODAY 02-19-10] Latens, a developer of middleware and software-based security solutions for IPTV and cable services, launched CAS 5, a software-only conditional access system (CAS) compatible with cable, DTH, DTT, IP and hybrid networks from a single head-end, the company announced Feb. 18.
   Latens’ CAS system aims to detects how set-top boxes (STBs) are connected to the access system and automatically allocates the entitlements and permissions.
   The company said that the main benefit is that operators will not have to invest in a new access system system when it wishes to expand to other network types or from one-way to a return path. The system also supports a dual mode, which allows operators to manage video network operations and leverage multiple vendors using a single system.
