[Satellite TODAY 02-10-10] ViaSat grew revenues by 4 percent to $156 million but fell short of its $169 million target, according to the company’s third quarter 2010 financial results, released Feb. 8,
The company said its shortcomings were primarily due to a 5 percent decline in its government sector revenues. However, the company reported that its MIDS-J program contract with the U.S. Department of Defense has been given the green light and that ViaSat captured 100 percent of the initial order.
ViaSat’s third quarter results included $9 million in revenues from recently acquired ISP provider WildBlue Communications. ViaSat said it closed the WildBlue acquisition three months earlier than expected, which cut transaction expenses in half. WildBlue reported a total subscriber base of 423,000 and a churn rate of 2.1 percent.
The company said its future projections remain positive, with the ViaSat-1 satellite under budget and on track for launch in February 2011 and a strong possibility that the company will capture up to two additional Ka-band satellite projects by the end of 2010.
