[Satellite TODAY 02-04-10] European DTH service provider Sky Italia lost subscribers and operational income in its second fiscal quarter of 2010, the company announced in its financial results, released Feb. 2.
The News Corp.-owned broadcaster reported an operating loss of $30 million during the quarter, which ended in December, representing a decrease of $40 million compared with the $10 million in operating income the company reported in the same quarter of 2009.
Sky Italia also lost 63,000 subscribers during the quarter, dropping to a total of 4.7 million subscribers.
“Sky Italia is faced with a tough economic environment and increased competition, but we’re certainly enthusiastic about the potential of this business given the high quality of our service and the low penetration of page elevation in Italy,” News Corp. Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch said in a statement.
