[Satellite TODAY 01-20-10] NSS-12 has entered into commercial service, SES World Skies announced Jan. 18.
NSS-12, manufactured by Space Systems/Loral (SSL) and placed at 57 degrees East, aims to deliver DTH service through four regional Ku-band spot beams to the Middle East, Europe, Central and Southern Asia, and Eastern Africa. The satellite carries 40 C-band and 48 Ku-band transponders with DTH power levels as well as beam interconnectivity and C-/Ku-band cross-strapping.
In a statement, SES World Skies CEO Robert Bednarek said the satellite would reach about two-thirds of the world’s population. “The satellite provides significant incremental capacity to serve the fast-growing South Asian and East African markets. As such, it is an integral part of our ambitious launch manifest aimed at increasing the in-orbit capacity of our 25-satellite strong SES World Skies fleet.”
