[Satellite TODAY 01-15-10] Avanti Communications signed a 665,000 euro ($964,000), five-year contract with Italian broadband service provider EDDI S.R.L. for capacity on the Hylas 1 satellite, Avanti announced Jan. 14.
The deal extends the scale and duration of EDDI’s Hylas 1 commitment. The company, based in Pavia, Italy, is a wholesale customer of Avanti and plans to use the new capacity to bridge the digital divide for Italian consumers and enterprise wherever terrestrial ADSL is not available.
In a statement, Avanti CEO David Williams hinted at a possible price increase for Hylas 1 capacity in the near future. “Available capacity on Hylas 1 will diminish and prices will rise so it is commercially astute to lock in capacity at current rates,” said Williams. Hylas 1 is set to launch in 2010.
