[Satellite TODAY 01-08-10] Loral Space & Communications entered into an agreement with Canadian broadband provider Barrett Xplore to deliver high-throughput satellite Ka-band capacity on ViaSat-1 for Barrett Xplore customers in Canada, Loral announced Jan. 7.
    Barrett Xplore will use the Loral capacity, with 15 gigabits per second of throughput, to deliver higher speeds and bandwidth capacities for accessing future Internet applications.
    Loral will lease up to 100 percent of the capacity that it owns on the ViaSat-1 satellite to Barrett Xplore for the expected life of the satellite. ViaSat-1 is under construction at Space Systems/Loral and scheduled for launch in early 2011.
    Loral will work with its affiliate, Telesat Canada, to provide Barrett Xplore with satellite operations and gateway facility management. ViaSat will provide the ground infrastructure needed for the ViaSat-1 satellite services.
    Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

[Satellite TODAY 10-30-09] Hughes Network Systems sold 10 gigabits (Gbps) per second of capacity on its Jupiter satellite to Canadian broadband provider Barrett Xplore in a deal valued at $100 million, Hughes announced Oct. 29.
