[Satellite TODAY 12-16-09] Telenor Satellite Broadcasting’s (TSB) Thor 6 satellite has completed all necessary in-orbit and ground related testing will begin commercial service in late December, the operator announced Dec. 15.
TSB has taken formal ownership of the satellite and is now controlling the satellite from its in-house space control center in Oslo, Norway.
The Thor 6 satellite is fitted with 36 Ku-band transponders and aims to provide DTH television broadcasting services from the orbital location at 1 degree West. The new satellite also offers direct replacement capacity for services currently residing on Thor 3.
“With Thor 6 now ready to commence service, TSB has effectively doubled its capacity availability from 1 degree West, one of the fastest growing orbital locations in Central and Eastern Europe,” said Cato Halsaa, CEO of TSB, in a statement.
