[Satellite TODAY 11-26-09] DirecTV, which split off from its parent company Liberty Media on Nov. 19, is not for sale, according to Chairman John Malone.
Malone was featured in an interview with CNBC to silence industry rumors that the split with Liberty was initiated in order to sell DirecTV to AT&T or Verizon.
However, Malone said the company would at least listen to offers. "If somebody wants to buy DirectTV, they can call up Mike White or me and we’ll talk to them," said Malone in an interview, adding that a merge with a major telephone company in the United States would be difficult to clear regulatory hurdles.
DirecTV recently appointed former PepsiCo CEO Michael White as its new CEO to take office on Jan. 1.
