The satellite communications sector is good at solving problems. Most of the time it’s for customers, but one of the best stories I heard on the IBC exhibit floor was from a company that solved a problem for itself.
NDSatcom received a call from its office in Dubai, which was having communications troubles. It seems the infrastructure in Abu Dhaabi was not good enough to meet the office’s communications need. The parent company went to its SNG heritage and produced a vehicle packaged with satellite services to provide the office with voice, video and data services.
The solution worked so well, that NDSatcom decided it had a marketable product that could meet the purposes of customers looking for more services in tight economic times. It’s too early to predict the commercial prospects, but the development is a great example of how the satellite communications sector solves problems, and how those can turn into new revenue streams.
