[Satellite TODAY 08-18-09] International Datacasting Corp. (IDC) has acquired select product lines and related technology from San Diego-based broadcast company Comtech Tiernan Video (Tiernan) for more than $2 million
in a cash transaction that closed Aug. 17, IDC announced.
Tiernan, a wholly owned subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., will be handing over its radio and television network product lines to IDC. These products include: HD and SD digital video compression and decompression products, interface converters, video encoders and receivers, and satellite broadcast equipment.
IDC has acquired all intellectual property, trademarks, inventory, customer and vendor lists as well as original equipment manufacturer reseller partnerships related to the Tiernan-related product lines being acquired. Comtech EFData has agreed to continue manufacturing certain products and components in the Tiernan product line while IDC transitions manufacturing into its own operations. IDC will integrate about 30 former Tiernan employees into the new operation.
“In structuring this acquisition, we have worked with the vendor to ensure a minimum amount of disruption to the business as we transition and integrate operations over the next few months,” Ron Clifton, president and CEO of IDC, said in a statement. “We expect this acquisition to contribute to our results this fiscal year and will contribute materially to our consolidated results in our next fiscal year."
