[Satellite TODAY 08-11-09] EchoStar Corp. more than doubled its profits in the second quarter of 2009, earning $101.8 million compared with $47.8 million in the same period in 2008, according to the company’s financial results released Aug. 10.
    EchoStar said it made an investment gain of $110.1 million during the quarter and reported an increase of service revenues from its sister company Dish Network, to $99.4 million from $93 million in 2008.
    However, the company’s revenue fell 21 percent to $383.1 million from $483.3 million in 2008 due to lower set-top boxes sales and revenue per unit. Equipment revenue from Dish Network declined to $204 million from $301 million.
