[Satellite TODAY 08-10-09] Companies under the umbrella of Greek telecom OTE reported strong second quarter results this week, according to company reports.
RomTelecom, based in Romania, reported it had 780,000 DTH subscribers for its Dolce’TV service by the end of June — a 48 percent increase compared to the same period a year ago, according to OTE’s 2009 second-quarter results released Aug. 6.
The consolidation of OTE in June also contributed 1.5 billion euros ($2.2 billion) to Deutsche Telekom’s second quarter sales, boosting the Germany-based telco’s profits by 32 percent, according to Deutsche Telekom’s second-quarter results.
Hellas Sat, also part of OTE, announced it has been granted a license to start offering satellite pay-TV services in Greece. The license contract, signed last week with Greek government officials, enables OTE to provide subscriber TV services through its satellite Hellas Sat 2, become the second DTH player in Greece.
