[Satellite Today 07-27-09] Canal Digital, a Nordic pay-TV operator, saw an increase in profits for in the second quarter at $17.89 million compared to $4.27 million in 2008, the company said in its 2009 second quarter financial results, released July 23.
Canal Digital’s revenues mainly increased as an effect of higher penetration of additional services for cable in Norway, the company said.
Despite the overall profit increases, Canal Digital lost 17,000 DTH subscribers in the quarter and, as a result, will be cutting down on its marketing, hardware and logistics costs.
Canal Digital competes against Viasat Broadcasting in the region. Viasat also reported a loss of DTH subscribers in its second quarter results released July 22.
