[Satellite Today 06-03-09] AsiaSat and EchoStar have formed a partnership to deliver direct-to-home (DTH) services throughout Asia, the companies announced June 2.
     The operators aim to deliver a digital satellite television service to Taiwan and other targeted regions via the AsiaSat 4 satellite. AsiaSat 4 has a broadcast satellite service payload, which will enable viewers to receive the DTH offerings using satellite antennas as small as 30 centimeters in diameter.
    “This joint venture between AsiaSat and EchoStar makes it possible to enter the growing Asian market that seeks a popular lineup of all digital television channels at an attractive price,” Steve Schaver, president of EchoStar International Corp., said in a statement.
